PAPUA “tabloidnusantara.com” ~ Following the violence incident in Dogiyai District, Central Papua, Thursday (13/7), another assault on civilian occurred in Sugapa, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, Saturday 15 July 2023 at 06.10 LT. The Armed Criminal Group or KKB admitted its involvement.
The victim was a trader named Oktari Andi (40). He was seriously injured after an unidentified person stabbed him in the back of the neck with a machete. The act is believed to have been premeditated.
The local authority spokesperson, Chief Commissioner Police Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, said that pretending to be shopping, the suspect intentionally came to the victim’s kiosk. When the victim was about to take the items ordered, the suspect suddenly slashed his machete and immediately fled towards Wandoga Village. Several witnesses portrayed the suspect as a tall guy wearing a black jacket and jeans shorts,” he added.
The Intan Jaya Police Chief, Chief Commissioner Police Afrizal, told that the incident happened when the victim and his brother-in-law were cleaning up the kiosk in the morning while an unidentified person carrying a machete came to buy gabin biscuits. “While the kiosk owner was serving the order, the suspect suddenly stabbed the victim in the back of the neck, causing a 12-centimeter wound on his neck. The victim screamed for help, but the suspect managed to escape,” he explained. The victim was then treated at the local health center and was taken to a hospital in Mimika Regency.
Afrizal stated that they have conducted a crime scene investigation and identified witnesses. “We promise we shall solve this case and arrest the suspect,” he added.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Free Papua Movement-National Liberation Army (TPN-OPM), Sebby Sebom, stated that they were involved in the assault. “Intan Jaya is one of the war zones between us and the security forces. We urge residents to immediately leave the area for their own safety,” Sebby emphasized.
This incident adds to the list of violence and gruesome crimes in Papua conducted by the infamous Papua Armed Criminal Group (KKB). Previously, Ripin, a motorcycle taxi driver, was killed with 23 stabs in his body in Nabire Regency, Central Papua, on Tuesday (11/7/2023) night. KKB/OPM declared their responsibility for the horrible killing of Ripin, who they believed to be an undercover military intelligence.
Based on Sabby Sambom’s statement, the mass atrocities in Intan Jaya show that OPM is continuing their brutalities and terrorizing the civilians and posing serious threats the security forces. Moreover, their crimes have clearly violated human rights.
Recent incidents also show that OPM is in a very difficult situation and cornered. Hence, they started using sympathizers to disrupt the security and avoid being chased by security forces as their logistics are depleting while on the run.
